Symphonic Sea Shanties No.2 – For Full Orchestra (with Optional Soloist & SATB Choir)
This work for full orchestra features several well-known Sea Shanties combined to create a longer work. This arrangement features the iconic sea shanties; “The Sailor’s Hornpipe”, “Haul Away, Joe”, “Leave Her Johnny, Leave Her” and “Fire Down Below”. The work is easily approachable by Grade 2+ school and community orchestras, and features the use of 6/8 in the latter part of the arrangement. Optional vocal parts are included for those who would like to include a solo vocalist and / or choir. It would make a great addition to any concert program and can be combined with my previously published Symphonic Sea Shanties No.1 – For Full Orchestra for a themed event.
The score includes parts for the English Horn (Cor Anglais) and Contrabassoon, as they add new orchestral colours. However, the score is definitely playable without these instruments, as the parts are doubled in tutti sections and cross-cued for solos with more common instrument
parts.
* Optional parts for Soloist, Choir, Eb Alto Saxophone, Bb Tenor Saxophone and Piano part are also supplied. These can be used to add
colour or can assist if you are missing instruments, particularly Horns 1 & 3 or the ensemble has an insufficient number of lower strings. The piano part can be used for rehearsals with the vocalists or to supplement the orchestra. The piece is playable with or without these parts.
