Description
This is my first attempt at a string quartet. It follows the standard
classical/romantic pattern in three movements. The first movement is
light and airy, almost evoking the image of a late romantic drawing
room. The 2nd movement is slow and sad, evoking the sense of a maiden
weeping for a lost love. This movement needs to be played with a lot of
passion and all parts need to use their warmest vibrato. The final
movement portrays a laughing, glittery ball. Dancers in evening dress
whirl around the dance floor. The cello has a leading role.
This was originally written in 2005 and added to over the next two or
three years. I’m currently working on my second quartet.
