Description

This march is anything but solemn, despite the title. Based on what I can hear, it is really meant to be a triumphal march or processional for a grand (or “solemn”) event. The work features several fanfares and a very catchy melody.

This is from the piano collection, Five Bagatelles Op.48 titled “Malickosti”, created by the Czech composer, Zdeněk Fibich.

The score includes parts for the English Horn (Cor Anglais) and Contrabassoon, as they add new orchestral colours. However, the score is definitely playable without these instruments, as the parts are doubled in tutti sections and cross-cued for solos with more common instrument parts.

* Optional parts for Eb Alto Saxophone, Bb Tenor Saxophone and Piano part are also supplied. These can be used to add colour or can assist if you are missing instruments, particularly Horns 1 & 3 or the ensemble has an insufficient number of lower strings.
