Overture to the Land and People is an orchestral journey exploring the occasional imbalances and overall synergies between civilisation and the land. The piece features three distinct sections. It opens with a brisk introduction featuring a wonderous, soaring oboe solo, conveying the joyful and energetic, as well as expressive mood of a cityscape. Next, a slow and lyrical section, perhaps showing the slower mood of nighttime. Finally, a quick finale, summing all previous themes and concluding the piece with a triumphant finale.

Overture to the Land and People is scored for a full orchestra, including piccolo, two flutes, oboe, two clarinets in B♭, two bassoons, contrabassoon, four horns in F, two trumpets in B♭, two trombones, bass trombone, tuba, timpani, snare and bass drum, mallet percussion, auxiliary percussion, harp, violins 1, violins 2, violas, cellos and double basses.
