Description
Lament for Solo Flute is in three sections (2 pages)and is 4.20 secs in length
The fist section is essentially in A minor (although no key signature is present throughout) with plenty of chromaticism focusing on intervals of Diminihed 5th and Minor 2nd to achieve a lament-like atmosphere. This section settles and is immediately followed by a Piu mosso section which drives the piece forward employing a sense of urgency with it’s semiquaver patterns and runs. This section features much more in the way of chromatisism and is more technical. The third and final section starts in D major and has a more lyrical melodic style, however the intervals of the opening two sections re-appear as does the A minor elements to take the piece to a calm conclusion.
This is intended as a reflective piece.
Set at Advanced Intermediate level but the whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability.
