Hans Sitt was a German composer, violinist, and teacher who lived from 1850 to 1922. He was known for his contributions to violin pedagogy and his compositions, which include a variety of works for violin and piano, as well as orchestral and chamber music.

One of his notable works is “5 Little Fantasies About Christmas Carols, Op. 74,” which was published in two parts: the first two movements in 1902 and the remaining three in 1922. This collection includes five movements, each based on a different Christmas carol. The fourth movement, “Joseph Dearest, Joseph Mine,” is based on the traditional German carol “Joseph, lieber Joseph mein”. This is a is a beautiful piece that reflects the tender and serene nature of the original carol. The melody is simple yet expressive, capturing the essence of the Christmas spirit.
