DESPAIR For Solo Clarinet in Bb
The composition entitled “Despair” emerged during a period in the composer’s life characterized by a succession of uncontrollable and distressing events. Daily activities and problems multiplied, becoming progressively more urgent. Added to this burden were university academic obligations, such as preparing for final semester exams, rehearsals and concerts with the school orchestra and band, and rehearsals and recitals with the pianist and chamber music ensembles. In addition, the composer had to manage a job search, plan a trip to an unfamiliar city, and, as if that weren’t enough, create a work for solo clarinet. All of this had to be accomplished in the span of just five days.
