Description
A capriccio is generally a freeform musical composition which is usually lively and whimsical in spirit and tempo. In this work he uses several recognisable Russian folk themes and combines them into an exciting and exuberant composition where the music is as fun to play as it is for the audience to listen to. The work also features a central fugal section that features the woodwinds. But brass and percussion players you get your fair share of great sections to play too. This composition was originally composed as a four-handed piano duet, when Glinka was studying composition in Berlin.  This substantial work is between 10 – 11 minutes long, depending on your choice of tempi.
