Description
This is part of a collection of Hans Leo Hassler’s liturgical settings for flexible quartet. Hassler was a predecessor of Bach and wrote some beautiful music for the church in the Late Renaissance style (Mainly, in Monteverdi’s terms,? stile antico.)
His Cantiones Sacre, written in 1592 comprises 12 motets for the church’s liturgical use throughout the year. Cantate Domino is a psalm text praising God. (“Sing to the Lord”)
