Description
This is a new arrangement for Brass quintet of the unusual and dramatic carol Personent Hodie. In line with the words as translated by Jane M. Joseph, the opening descending scale on the lower brasses should be bell like (as should the trumpet enties later) and there should be a sense of ‘stern joy’ in the the performance.
Verse 2 brings the tune in canon, with the tuba providing an ostinato accompaniment.
Verse 3 continues the tuba’s role providing a pedal to a vanilla setting of the music until the trumpet peals in the final chorus.
Well worth the effort of learning this will provide an unusual piece of Christmas music a well earned place in your concert ptogrammes.
