Description
Brass Band – March of the Midshipmen
A new march for brass band. It should be playable by almost any standard of band. It follows the usual pattern of Intro, A section for solo cornet, Bass solo section, Trio and DC.
The opening is in 6/8 and should be played with swagger as the sailors stride about the ship getting on with their business. The modern equivalent of a midshipman is the Petty Officer. Generally someone who wishes to rise through the ranks and tries to display authority. The bass solo should be played pompously and with great style.
The trio changes the style to a much lighter vein, with drinking and eating and other activities after the watch is over.
